Hi Herd Members,

I do not write on the group sites often. But I thought that if any of you have had to blanket your horses to help maintain or raise their temps during the cold weather, you might like to know about this blanket. I have had to blanket my horse Calypso as we are in the first 6 months of the VR program, and we are continuing to work on raising his temp...difficult in the frigid weather...and get to better health.

I have found that this Cool-Heat blanket does everything it is advertised to do, and I wanted to let you all know about it in case you have not heard of it yet. I had Calypso wearing his regular Horseware Ireland heavy turnout with several 100-gram liners underneath on the most frigid of days, and his temp was still not up where it needed to be. When he is cold, he gets crabby...one of the things I use as an indicator. So I have been experimenting with the Cool-Heat blanket for most of the winter now, with the following observations and results:

* As the Cool-Heat blanket allows my horse to maintain his own thermo-regulating and pilo-erection capabilities, it also has enabled him to maintain and raise his temp throughout the coldest days of this winter. When I use the blanket, Calypso maintains his body heat much better than with all the regular blanketing I was doing previously, and he seems much more comfortable and is much less crabby... or not crabby at all most days.

* I can use the Cool-Heat by itself at lower temps than I would normally use a single blanket, because Calypso can still use his own body heating capabilities.

* In the most frigid temps, I have been a kind of guinea pig to see if a horse can wear the Cool-Heat underneath another blanket, which I have had to do because of Calypso's health this year. I have found that the Cool-Heat continues to work extremely well. We were concerned that another blanket on top of the Cool-Heat would create uncomfortable pressure-points on Calypso's body. Although there are a couple of dents in his fur when I remove the blankets, the combination of the Cool-Heat under another blanket does not bother my horse at all. I fact, it keeps him that much warmer, and he is that much happier. I have watched his movement very carefully throughout my experimentation, and I have seen zero indications of pressure-points creating any kind of movement issues. Again just the opposite - Calypso is moving very well these days.

* I believe that the stays or ribs in the blanket acutally provide a massage-type of effect which horses find quite nice. He feels comfortable enough to lie down in his blanket whenever he is in a stall, which is only during horrid ice-storm weather events.

I just wanted to let you know about this wonderful new blanket. It is working great for Calypso and me. It has literally given me peace of mind knowing that I can keep Calypso warm without degrading his natural capabilities and that he is as warm as he can possibly be as we continue our VR journey to wonderful health.

The Cool-Heat Blanket is a wonderful product that may help many horseowners.
